Teeny, Tiny Plane

After my 4 days in Manhattan (see previous post from 10/23 to find out about my adventures there), I hopped on a plane to Albany, NY.  I was excited as I had never been to upstate NY before and was looking forward to exploring more of this beautiful country.

I knew the trip to Albany was a short 45mins to an hour by plane.  I have flown short trips like this before, practically once a month between the bay area and orange county.  I was used to the short flight.  What I was not prepared for was the type of plane that I would be flying on.

Normally my short flights are still conducted with “regular sized” planes – Boeing 757 or similar.  They typically have a number of rows in the mid 20s and 3 seats on each side of the plane in each row.  This short flight from LaGuardia to Albany was to be made on a much, much much smaller plane.  The plane I got on was only 9 rows with only 2 seats on each side of the plane.  I must admit I was a bit nervous when I took my seat in row 8, the second to last row of the plane.

I could not only feel the vibrations of the engines as usual, but the sound was practically deafening.  But, to the pilot’s credit, we got off the ground just fine, and landed very smoothly.  However, because of the size of the plane, the turbulence was a bit more noticeable.  Beverage service was even cancelled because the stewardess had to stay seated (not that it was entirely necessary on such a short flight).

Not the best picture, but you can see
some of the fall colors as I saw from the plane!

All in all, the flight was fine (and I got to see the beautiful fall colors from the plane!).  Hopefully, I will not be quite as apprehensive next time I am scheduled to fly on a tiny plane … but no promises!

Flying on a tiny plane takes gumption!
