My family is incredibly busy, and between the 4 of us we
have entirely different schedules. While
this is often great for the daily grind – we don’ all have to use the bathroom
at the same time in the morning – it can be difficult when we want to find time
to hangout as a family.
Fortunately, a few weekends ago we were able to do just
that. My sister had the rare weekend day
off, my mom was not going into work, my dad was free, and I my schedule was
unusually wide open. We took the
opportunity to have some family time.
When I was in grammar school and high school we often drove
down to Monterey for the day, eating on the wharf, walking around cannery row,
and just enjoying the sun. It had been
about 10 years or more since we had gone the last time, and thought it would be
the perfect place.
So we got up early and drove down. We ate lunch at our favorite place –
Abalonettis. The food was amazing as
usual, and we got a table by the window so we could enjoy the waterfront view. Then we walked up and down the wharf and did
a bit of shopping.
It was a nice relaxing day followed by a drive back through
the mountains on old Santa Cruz Highway.
