199

After 16 grueling but amazing months of working out, I have passed my first HUGE milestone.  I stepped on the scale yesterday and the first number I read was NOT a 2, it was a 1.  Yes, that’s right … I finally broke the 200lb barrier and for the first time in my adult life I am in the 100’s!!

Though I was fairly certain this morning before arriving at the gym that I had lost some additional weight that just might pull me under, I was still nervous as I stepped on the scale.  The beautiful sight of 199.0 made me practically jump for joy as a huge smile crept across my face.  I of course grabbed my phone to take a picture. (See Below).

Luckily Adam was in the gym, but he was with another client.  So I patiently (not really patiently – I was staring at the clock and then looking at him and his client willing them to finish) waited for Adam to finish up with his client.  Then as soon as he was done I told him I needed 5 seconds and walked him over to the scale.  He watched me climb on and was stoked when he saw the 1 appear as the first number.  A huge smile, a high five, and a congratulations and he was off to train someone else while I ran intervals.

This day has been inching closer and closer, but I thought it would never get here.  This has been an amazing journey so far and I cannot wait to hit the next milestone (which is to have lost 100lbs total).  Thankfully I am only about 11 pounds away from this one, but it is getting harder and harder to lose.  Making a big push for my birthday which is why I am currently detoxing (more to come in a later post).  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Say yes to passing milestones! :)

Most girls would rather die than tell people their weight let alone post a picture of the scale, but I know the work that went into achieving this number and I am incredibly proud of it and determined to share it with the world.  But the best part is, it is just going to go down from here!

A Little Family Time ...

My family is incredibly busy, and between the 4 of us we have entirely different schedules.  While this is often great for the daily grind – we don’ all have to use the bathroom at the same time in the morning – it can be difficult when we want to find time to hangout as a family.

Fortunately, a few weekends ago we were able to do just that.  My sister had the rare weekend day off, my mom was not going into work, my dad was free, and I my schedule was unusually wide open.  We took the opportunity to have some family time.

When I was in grammar school and high school we often drove down to Monterey for the day, eating on the wharf, walking around cannery row, and just enjoying the sun.  It had been about 10 years or more since we had gone the last time, and thought it would be the perfect place.

So we got up early and drove down.  We ate lunch at our favorite place – Abalonettis.  The food was amazing as usual, and we got a table by the window so we could enjoy the waterfront view.  Then we walked up and down the wharf and did a bit of shopping.

It was a nice relaxing day followed by a drive back through the mountains on old Santa Cruz Highway.

Say yes to family time!

Green Smoothies

I have been seeing my health coach for over 3 months now, and I have learned some fantastic new things that I have begun to incorporate into my weekly routine, but none has been as wonderful as the Green Smoothie – this is something I now enjoy everyday!

If you know me, you know I do not like vegetables.  As a good friend of mine likes to comment, I eat like a 5 year old.  So, in order to eat vegetables, I must hide them.  One of my favorite ways to “hide” them is in soup.  Yes, they are not really hidden, but they also do not taste like vegetables if you add meat and season it right.  But, I now have a new favorite way of hiding vegetables.

I was introduced to the green smoothie not too long ago.  We had a taste test one night, and my world we changed.  I currently have 3 favorite recipes – a green, a purple, and a brown smoothie.  Though none of them have exact measurements, here are the directions.

Mango/Pineapple Green Smoothie
  • Big handful of spinach
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen mango
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 orange pealed
  • 1/3 of a date
  • 2Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • About 2 cups of water
Strawberry/Pineapple/Blueberry Purple Smoothie
  • Big handful of spinach
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Small handful frozen blueberries
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 orange pealed
  • 1/3 of a date
  • 2Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • About 2 cups of water
Strawberry/Pineapple Brown Smoothie
  • Big handful of spinach
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 orange pealed
  • 1/3 of a date
  • 2Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • About 2 cups of water
For each of the above, combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  Then pour into a cup and enjoy!  You can save some for later too, but make sure it is in an airtight container and be sure to drink it up within 24 hrs.

You can also add chard and kale a long with the spinach.  Wonderful, easy, and delicious way to increase leafy green vegetable intake!
