Time for another Write on Wednesday. I missed last week’s because I was out of town, but I may go back to it in the future, so keep an eye out. Here are this week’s directions:
Write On Wednesdays Exercise 8 - The clock winked...Write the words "The clock winked" at the top of your page. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write the first words that come into your head after the prompt. Stop when the buzzer rings. Do this exercise over and over if you wish. Write beyond 5 minutes if you like, you can link it up as an extra post.
THE CLOCK WINKED devilishly as it struck 2am. She sighed heavily and put her head down on the table. There were books and papers strewn about as if a tornado had ripped through the room. Stacks of multicolored notecards teetered in stacks that were piled too high. Neon highlighters glowed among the sea of black and white text.
Never enough time in the day she thought as she reached out her hand. She clasped the Starbucks cup and brought it to her lips.
“Ugh, cold,” she muttered as she placed it back on the table. She let out a deep breath and contemplated continuing. Her back was sore from hunching over, her eyes were red from reading page after page after page, and her hand was still cramped from writing out all those notecards. This is impossible she thought. Another day gone and still not caught up, not even close.
If you know me at all, you will EASILY be able to figure out the inspiration for this particular piece. It was very easy to write and I definitely could have kept going. I may have to continue with this one in the future.
Sharing your writing, in particular a personal story, takes gumption!
I can definitely relate to that. :) Well done.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, using inspiration from real life is a good idea. If this came easily to you, perhaps you should continue with it? A personal story is very hard to share so well done for doing so. Love that devilish clock. You described a small point in time very well.
ReplyDeleteDo last week's exercise if you can find time. I found it difficult, going from a photo but I think it was very worthwhile.
I know this feeling well! Sourcing real experiences brings an understanding to a piece that others can relate to and want to read more of! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the encouragement!
ReplyDelete@Gill - I will definitely try to do the photo exercise. Like you, I think I will find it to be a challenge.
