A Whale of a Shower

On February 23, 2014, to celebrate a much anticipated little boy, we (aunts, friends, and sisters) threw a whale themed shower for the mom-to-be.  The aunts took care of the food and location.  The friends and sister were left to games and decorations.

I kind of took charge (really, did you expect anything less?!) and came up with ideas for the decorations and started brainstorming games.  Then we pow-wowed and decided on games and who would do what tasks.

The decorations we wanted to be totally functional, not something to be thrown away in 3 hours after the party was over.  So we decided, clotheslines, baby bottles, and diaper cakes were the way to go!  I made 7 (yes seven) diaper cakes to use as center pieces inside.  I then arranged flowers in baby bottles to be used as centerpieces outside.  We hung clothes from the plants and the windows.  I have to say, sometimes I think I am in the wrong profession.  Doing the decorations for this shower was way more fun than writing briefs and motions!! Here is how it looked:

The food was delicious, as usual, we had tuna and egg salad sandwiches, tons of sides and fruit.  Of course dessert, and this beautiful cake!

We played games, in particular this game fashioned after Hollywood Game Night, Four Letter Words, suggested by the Grandma-to-be!

Surprise Shower!

My best friend is having a baby ... actually, I should clarify ... my best friendS are expecting a baby!

Her shower is scheduled for February 23 and will be a large, girls only affair with tons of food, decorations, and the normal baby shower stuff.  He will be there to open presents and greet guests, but otherwise, this shower is mostly for her and the baby.

So, I wanted to be able to celebrate him as well, thus, the surprise shower was born.  Two friends and I planned the event with the theme of "toys" since really the dad-to-be is just a big kid!  We had toys on the table, made a diaper tricycle, and all pitched in to get a big red radio flyer wagon.

Now this was a surprise, so one friend invited the parents-to-be to dinner with her family.  I guess we are a family of sorts ... so it wasn't quite a lie right?!  :)  When they got there, they were shocked!  It was fun to see their faces, first of confusion, then of delight.

We played a the candy game where there are different boxes of candy on the table and clues are given.  Guest have to guess the candy referred to in the clue.  Then we did a taste test.  The girls blindfolded the guys and fed them different flavors of baby food - mostly fruit and a couple veggies.  There guesses were recorded and the results were announced at the end.  Apparently the best tasting was guava, the worst ... sweet potatoes, surprisingly!

We opened presents and ate a giant pazookie ... and took lots of photos!

It was a great night celebrating an exciting time in all of our lives.

Living life everyday, celebrating!
